Day 5 RTE 66, NM to AZ

We made some eggs and pancakes, I did some laundry, and we headed out at checkout time. This stretch has been more winding through mountains, so a good part of it we kept to the interstate. 5 kids and a 12 passenger van doesn't always make for good off-roading. Once we got to Arizona, I really wanted to go to the Painted Desert Trading Post, BUT its 5 miles of off road driving from the east, and from the west you need to get in touch with 'the cow boss' to open a gate for you...and we weren't going to trespass...at least not with kids...lol. Once we got to Holbrook, AZ, we were able to see the Wigwam Motel-another inspiration for the Kozy Kone Motel in Cars. Next, we stopped at the Jackrabbit Trading Post in Joseph City. Then we made it to Winslow. We checked into Earls Route 66 Motel, then went into town. We stood on the corner in Winslow, Arizona, checked out the old landmarks, then headed over to The Falcon for some dinner. We went to bed early, since we were tired, plus we had gained 3 hours.
